This Pre-Access course is a 36 week preparatory course for students that wish to study on an Access programme at Level 3 but wish to develop their academic skills and knowledge base beforehand.
The course provides an introduction to subjects studied within our Access provisions, and a deep focus is placed on developing your ability to research, produce and present academic assessments.
- A good level of English (equivalent to level 2 – qualification not essential)
- Competent ICT skills
- We require students to complete an English and Maths qualification alongside the Pre Access course (if necessary).
What Books And Equipment Do I Need?
Access to a computer and the internet, reading lists will be given to you during the course.
Where will I Study?
The course is held at the Kensington Centre, Wornington Road, London W10 5QQ.
What will I learn?
The course comprises of 17 units, you will be required to complete all work within specified deadlines over the 36 weeks. Some topics include;
- Learning Skills
- Research Skills
- Introduction to Sociology
- Introduction to Psychology
- Essay Writing
How will I be taught?
You will have three 3 hours sessions per week: Introduction to Social Science and Humanities, Psychology and Personal Development and Academic Skills. Applicants should allow an additional 3 hours per week to complete homework and assessment tasks.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed through a variety of techniques including essays, presentations, booklets and group tasks.
What can I do next?
Candidates who have successfully achieved the Pre Access course will be encouraged to sit an assessment for an Access course at Level 3.
