The Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology course is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level study or employment in the media sector.

It has been designed to provide specialist opportunities for students looking to get in to media areas such as video production, visual effects, audio production, sound effects, photography, studio lighting, web design, photo retouching, documentary film making, short film & video making and video editing. All this will be packaged in to a portfolio for you to use to promote yourself and apply for higher education, apprenticeships or employment. The Level 3 diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology course is the usual progression for Level 2 diploma students coming from Graphic Design and Media, or students that have completed a media GCSE or A Level. This course has been designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level study or employment in the media sector. With hands on practical experience and professional production techniques both in and out of the studios students can develop their skills.
This course provides an opportunity for those with an interest in media to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure, which is stimulating and demanding. During the year we cover 8 units. Unit 8, the final unit will require the completion of an independent final major project. This will be the only unit you complete in term 3. The project will be of your own making, which you will have full creative control over. You will be supported and guided from your peers and tutors.
The Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology course is a one Year study programme. Students must complete the eight mandatory units listed below to achieve the qualification:
Unit 1: Introduction to Media Processes and Technical Skills
Unit 2: Introduction to Design and Research Skills in Creative Media Production
Unit 3: Introduction to Professional Practice in Creative Media Production
Unit 4: Critical and Contextual Awareness in Creative Media Production
Unit 5: Investigating Audio Production and Technology
Unit 6: Investigating Visual Production and Technology
Unit 7: Investigating Interactive Production and Technology
Unit 8: Developing a Creative Media Production Project
How will I be assessed?
Units 1 – 7 of the Level 3 diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology will be internally assessed and internally moderated against the assessment criteria for those units.
Unit 8 is the final unit of the Level 3 diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology course, will be internally assessed, internally and externally moderated against the assessment and grading criteria for those units. Unit 8 is graded pass, merit or distinction, and determines the overall final grade for the qualification. To achieve a merit or distinction grade, a student must meet all of the assessment and grading criteria in the respective categories in full.
Mode of Study:
This qualification will run 3 days per week over one year but learners can access college facilities 5 days a week if they desire to complete projects or even just experiment with ideas. Students may also book studios on their days off if required.
Learners under 19 years will need 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4, including English and Maths. Adults are required to have portfolio evidence for a media area. Alternatively, applicants will need a BTEC First Diploma or UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art, Design or Media. All applicants will be subject to a formal interview prior to full enrolment.
Alumni have progressed onto higher education to study a HND, Foundation Degree or a BA in Creative Media Production. This is subject to total UCAS points achieved. Also, there are opportunities to apply for apprenticeships or employments in the creative industry.
