This course provides an outstanding platform to progress onto higher level programmes both within Kensington and Chelsea College and beyond. Students are taught the fundamentals of fashion design, fashion illustration, graphics, textiles techniques, CAD, history of fashion, garment manipulation, pattern construction and general art design processes. This course also includes regular field trips to museums and galleries.
Students progress to Level 3, Level 4, BA courses, placements and fashion industry jobs.
What does the course involve?
You will learn an extensive range of Fashion skills and develop your own ideas and personal ambitions. Study is over 1 year and will introduce you to the following:
* Drawing & Fashion Illustration
* Contextual Studies
* Visual Research, Design and Presentation
* Computers in Art & Design
* Pattern Construction & Garment Making
* Textiles and Surface Decoration for Fashion
* Employment in the Fashion & Textiles Industry
* Portfolio Building
* Work collaboration (Photography)
* Trips to museums and galleries
The first half of the course will provide you with basic skills and you will study a variety of approaches to design. In the second half you will concentrate on portfolio preparation and producing exhibition pieces, to support progression to Level 3 or 4 study. This will enhance your design skills through challenging and exciting projects.
Teaching methods include formal instruction, practical work and demonstrations, lectures, seminars, discussions, pair and group work.
The course runs three days per week from 10.00am- 16.00pm for 34 weeks.
