Course Description

 

The Institute of Leadership & Management, ILM, is the premier awarding body for management training, which aims to build leadership and management at the individual, team and organizational levels.

This course is for practicing, aspiring or experienced Team Leaders with no formal training. Learners will develop a wide range of team leading skills and assisting participants in gaining the comprehensive knowledge required by a team leader.

At the end of the course learners will:

• have a good understanding of the team leader role
• know how to motivate and gain the best from their teams
• have practical skills and knowledge they can quickly transfer to the workplace
• gain a nationally recognized award

 

 

 

 

What background and qualifications do you need to join?

There are no formal entry requirements.    Normally students will be either practicing or aspiring team leaders. 

What does the course lead to?

Students can progress to Level 3 Certificate or Level 3 or 4 qualifications in management/leadership.  Additionally, the Certificate will enhance student’s ability to move into junior supervisory/management positions.

Where will I study?

Study takes place at our Wornington Site. 

What are the facilities and equipment like?

We have interactive whiteboards, access to online teaching material via the College’s Virtual Learning Environment Moodle.  The college study centre where you will be able to access the computers and library.

How much should I study outside class?

Approximately 3 – 4 hours self study/investigation per week.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment is via assignments which are marked by your tutor and moderated by ILM.  In addition, you will complete a “mini-project” based on your place of work or former place of work.  There are no examinations.

Are any course materials online?

Yes, via Moodle

What books and equipment do I need?

You will be given information at Induction regarding books and websites which are useful.   You will need folders, paper and pens.

What else do I need to buy? / What extra costs are there?

You may wish to buy a few management books, these will be recommended to you by the tutor, but it is not compulsory.

What do I need to bring to the interview?

Pens and pencils.

  • Meet the course entry requirements
  • Provide information so that a school or college reference can be obtained if you are between 16-19 years old
