Contemporary Art Exhibition Visits

Contemporary Art Exhibition Visits

Course code: 11TAD037

Course Description

This course promotes the study of Contemporary Art. The classes consist in weekly visits to exhibitions and take place at designated art venues across London, ie. art galleries, artists run spaces and studios. The exhibitions are free. Focus is put on recent art, whether photography, video, sculpture, installation, etc., and emphasis placed on developing analytical skills rather than the memorization of names and dates. Although the tutor introduces the topic and provides the background of the subject matter, great importance is given to discussion. Students are encouraged to ask questions, participate in the debates and take part in the analysis of the works. The course is both for those with a keen interest in Contemporary Art and for those who wish to discover the subject. No specialist knowledge is required. At the end of the course, the students should be more confident in their appreciation of Contemporary Art. They should be able to develop discussion with other interested people and should have a good picture of the contemporary Art scene in London.
