Course Description
This Introduction to sculpture course is the ideal way for a beginner to start leaning how to make sculpture. Demonstrations of a variety of techniques are given by the tutor followed by hand’s on practice in the studio. The Park Walk Studio is specifically equipped for the making of sculpture and is staffed by working artist professionals. All materials and equipment are provided on the course in a safe working environment. Clay modelling plaster casting, metal work, wax, wood and stone carving and the use of mixed media will all be covered. There is a very friendly and supportive atmosphere in the classes with good 1 to 1 tutor to student teaching. Established for over 30 years the Sculpture Department has an excellent track record for providing stimulating and rewarding courses with opportunities for exhibiting work and progression to more advanced study within the College.
What background and qualifications do you need to join?
Students do not need any previous experience of making sculpture; the course is suitable for the complete beginner or those with some experience. A working understanding of English language is needed to follow instructions and maintain safety in the workplace.
What does the course lead to?
This sculpture course is an ideal way of learning the basic skills needed to make sculpture. There are several more advanced sculpture courses that the student can progress to within our department. Some students have gone on to be self employed artists getting commissioned work while others have found work in related industries. If you wish to apply to an Art College this course will help you create a portfolio of work for your application.
Where will I study?
The Park Walk Sculpture Studios are located within the site of Park Walk School in Park Walk Chelsea SW10 0AY Just off the kings Road. Our studios are purpose built and have excellent space and light on the ground floor.
What are the facilities and equipment like?
The sculpture studios are very well equipped with tools, machinery and facilities for all kinds of sculptural work. The space is heated and comfortable with facilities for light refreshment.
How much should I study outside class?
On this course no outside study is required but visits to museums and galleries is recommended.
How is the course assessed?
Each student in consultation with the tutor compiles an individual learning plan as a guide to their aims and objectives. This plan is reviewed periodically and final assessment are made in the way of feed back from the tutor relating to progress made and suggestions for further study. Students are encouraged to keep a folder documenting their work

In due course additional information will be made available on the College Moodle system
What books and equipment do I need?
Initially a sketch book and apron are all that would be required to start. Advice on compiling a basic toolkit will be given on the course.
What else do I need to buy? / What extra costs are there?
You will need to purchase materials from the studio that you use during your studies. Most basic materials are not very expensive and would not be more that a few pounds a week.
What do I need to bring to the interview?
No interview necesary.
