Developing Printmaking - BTEC Award Visual Arts Level 1
Course code: 11TLE077
Course Leader: Daniela Rizzi
Course Description
This 60 hours course is a practical, studio based programme which will give you a good overview of the Printmaking media and grounding in a wide range of techniques. You will learn to work in the well-equipped studio with specialist facilities and develop your ideas and imagery into a portfolio of creative prints. The course is a combination of structured teaching and informal workshop time and a wide range of techniques will be covered such as Monoprinting, Drypoint, Collagraph, Lino Cut, Etching and Photo-Etching and each technique will be introduced by demonstration while looking at the work of other artists.
Students are encouraged to explore the creative and more experimental possibilities of these processes while also gaining a good working knowledge of the traditional skills. Individual sketchbook research will form the backbone of both projects and self-initiated work and will be assessed along side the prints. Informal one-to-one tutorials and feedback will encourage each student’s personal strengths and interests as well as guiding them through projects.
Toward the end of the course, presentation of prints, editioning guidelines and mounting skills will be taught in preparation for finished work to be shown in the printmaking end of year show.
NB It is important to attend classes on a regular basis to make the most of the teaching and to come punctually to the class as much of the teaching will begin with a demonstration.
