Course Description

On the course you will receive instruction on methods of teaching language and the analysis of English language for teaching purposes. Teaching practice is an integral part of the course and you will teach 6 hours at two different levels. Your teaching will be observed by your tutor and fellow trainees. After teaching you will be given verbal and written feedback and your tutor will support you in planning your next lesson. Assessment on the course is based on your teaching practice and 4 written assignments. These assignments will be on the practical aspects of teaching and altogether require no more than 3,000 words. In order to be successful on the course you must attend 100% of the course, complete all the assignments and reach the required standard in your teaching practice.         

What background and qualifications do you need to join?

You need a good standard of spoken and written English. You do not have to be a native speaker, but you must demonstrate a high standard of English. You should have qualifications which would allow you entry into Level 3 education in your country.

What does the course lead to?

The Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults is an internationally recognised teaching qualification awarded by Cambridge ESOL.

Where will I study?

At the Hortensia Centre. On Fridays from 09:15-17.00 for 22 weeks starting 13th January and finishing 6th July 2012.

What are the facilities and equipment like?

All classrooms are equipped with Smart boards. You will have access to online teaching materials via the College’s Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle.  You will also be able to access the computers, printers, photocopiers and language teaching specialist books and e-books in the library.

 

 

 

How much should I study outside class?

You need to dedicate at least 6 hours to independent study per week.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment on the course is based on your teaching practice and 4 written assignments. These assignments will be on the practical aspects of teaching and altogether require no more than 3,000 words.

Are any course materials online?

You will have access to online teaching materials via the College’s Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle. 

What books and equipment do I need?

You will be given a suggested reading list at the start of the course.

You may need to buy some books, approximately £50

What do I need to bring to the interview?

Interviews will take place on Wednesday 7th December from 1pm to 4pm and on Friday 9th December from 1pm until 4 pm.
