First Steps in Business Administration (Level 1)

Course Description
You will learn the skills you need to qualify you as an Administrator or Secretary. You will learn keyboarding, WP and other IT skills. In addition you will learn, through practice, the correct way to write business correspondence and how the modern office is run.
At the end of the course you will take level 1 examinations in Business Administration plus Functional Skills in Maths, English and Information & Communication Technology.
What background and qualifications do you need to join?
All applicants will be interviewed for the course and will complete literacy and numeracy screening.
You must demonstrate that uou have the following levels of English and Maths - this will be determined at interview:
* GCSE English and Maths minimum grades D-G
* Or ESOL/ Basic Skills literacy and numeracy qualifications at level 1
* Or literacy and numeracy screening at level 1.
What does the course lead to?
Some learners progress to work when they have completed this course.
Learners progressing to work who wish to continue their learning may be able to do so through Apprenticeships or Train to Gain.
Some learners progress to the Level 2 Diploma in Administration.
Where will I study?
Wornington or Hortensia.
What are the facilities and equipment like?
Classrooms have up to date facilities. IT classrooms have specialist software relevant to your course.
How much should I study outside class?
You will be expected to complete assignments and homework in your own time and may need to practice the new skills you are learning. You may use our library in your own time which has computers, books, magazines/journals and other materils.
How is the course assessed?
A combination of assignments, portfolio and tests.
Are any course materials online?
Your Lecturer will show you how to access online materials relevant to your course. The materials are intended to supplement your course with further information and opportunities to practice. They are not intended to replace attendance in class.
What books and equipment do I need?
None
What else do I need to buy? / What extra costs are there?
You will need to provide stationery such as a folder, writing paper.

- Provide information so that a school or college reference can be obtained if you are between 16-19 years old
