Course Description

This is the core day of a course that can lead you onto a recognised qualification in art and design. This day will concentrate on building your art and design skills. Drawing is the key to all visual art disciplines and this will be central to your learning. You will be able to add subject specialisms to your study at other times during the week depending on how much time you have to study. The choice of these additional subjects include for example - Photography - Stained Glass - Jewelery - Fashion - Interior design - Printmaking - Sculpture - Life Drawing. These will be discussed during the induction.

What background and qualifications do you need to join?

You need no qualification to join this course at all. If you feel you would like a second chance of a career in Art and Design sign up for this course.

What does the course lead to?

This course leads to a full level 2 qualification for example BTEC First Certificate in Art and Design. It leads to a higher level qualification for example BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA

Where will I study?

The core day will be at Hortensia centre. The site will vary for the specialist subject study.

What are the facilities and equipment like?

Good studio spaces and the college will provide basic equipment for you to use. The college is well resource for art and design study.

How much should I study outside class?

How much time you spend outside of course hours will depend entirely on you. However we do encourage good use of sketchbooks.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment is continuous and formally takes place on completion of each unit in line with award body criteria.

Are any course materials online?

The students will be encouraged to use the student intranet. and course materials will be accessable. Useful Web links will be published the course handbook.

What books and equipment do I need?

No books are needed you will have access to the study centre where there is a good stock of art books and internet access. You will be expected to buy your own art materials. Basic materials can be purchased from the college. A basic tool kit consisting of paint brushes. pencils, sketchbooks and a variety of colour based materials. Further details of this will be available at the start of the course.

What else do I need to buy? / What extra costs are there?

As the course progresses there may be specialist tools and materials that are needed for the projects that you complete.

All students are admitted to the College on the basis that they:

  • Provide original documentation that confirms entry qualifications.
  • Meet the course entry requirements
  • Provide information so that a school or college reference can be obtained if you are between 16-19 years old
