Course Description

This is a Level 1 qualification that introduces you to the Hair & Beauty Industry. It enables you to achieve credits and prepares you to begin working towards a first full Level 2 qualification. The course teaches you how to present a professional image, learn how to shampoo and condition the hair, create basic hair styles for women, and learn basic hand care treatments. To compliment this course there are addition and valuable qualifications that run along side this course which includes English, Maths and ICT to improve your learning.

What background and qualifications do you need to join?

No formal qualifications is required for this course, however an apporpriate level of spoken and written English is required to satisfy the hair and beauty team

It leads to a Level 1 qualification in Hair and Beauty

Where will I study?

At our Wornington Road campus

What are the facilities and equipment like?

There is good salon space that will help you with your studies. All of our courses take place in our well-equipped hairdressing salon and theory studio where you can learn new skills and client procedures in a professional and friendly environment.

How much should I study outside class?

There is a certain amount of home study for both practical and theory each week to complete the course. It is suggested that an additional one hours per day is spent studying and practicing procedures learnt

How is the course assessed?

Assessment is continuous and formally takes place on completion of each unit in line with award body that issues your certificate

Are any course materials online?

Students will be encouraged to use the student intranet and course materials will be provided. Useful Web links will be published in the course handbook.

What books and equipment do I need?

A text books is required to support student learning while on the course. To assist with practical skills a basic kit is required

What else do I need to buy? / What extra costs are there?

You will need to purchase basic stationery supplies such as pens, paper, and folder. Photocopy cards and memory sticks can be bought from the Library or Learning Resource Dept should they be required.

All students are admitted to the College on the basis that they:

  • Agree to comply with the KCC student code of conduct
  • Provide original documentation that confirms entry qualifications.
  • Meet the course entry requirements
  • Provide information so that a school or college reference can be obtained if you are between 16-19 years old
