Interior Design and CAD Courses

These courses have been designed to give students the skills and confidence to develop as Creative Interior Designers.

To meet a variety of student needs courses range from introductory to advanced. Students develop a comprehensive view of interior design through practical projects that extend the students creative identity, independence and ability to present themselves and their work. Preparing the student for entry to university, employment and or self-employment.

Teaching involves formal instruction, hands on practical work and demonstrations, lectures, seminars, discussions, group work, one to one tutorials, visits to galleries and museums in London, along with the opportunity to meet practising designers. A team of experienced lecturers deliver all teaching.

The design studio is suitably equipped with the necessary specialist equipment and up to date computer aided design software for producing and presenting drawings to a professional standard.

    Qualification

    Level 1

    Qualification

    Begin or extend your studies in Interior Design by learning how to generate and develop ideas, plan a space, create the colour schemes and chose the materials and furniture by working very closely with the latest references in Architecture, International Styles and Designer. This course is ideal for continuing on from an introductory course or for beginners who want to learn about and explore the world of Interior Decoration , building on skills and preparing for a more substantial course. Successful completion will be awarded with a BTEC qualification.

  • Technical Drawing for Design ( 11JAD018 )

    Technical drawing is the language of design and an important skill which helps communicate your design ideas. In this short evening course, you will learn the principles of scale, technical drawing and understand the use of key equipment and techniques. Through a series of practical sessions you will be introduced to 2D plan and elevation drawing and interior design standards. You will explore 3D methods such as perspective, isometric and axonometric drawing and consider how drawings can be enhanced through rendering and graphic skills.

    This evening class course provides an introduction to the use of dynamic CAD software, Vectorworks. In a series of 10 sessions you will establish the skills needed to draw plan and elevation drawings. You will have the opportunity to learn a range of 2D techniques to improve and enhance your 2D interior designs.

    Following on from the Introduction to Vectorworks programme, this course builds skills to the next level. With a particular focus upon using 3D tools, you will extend your knowledge of Vectorworks to draw and visualise interior spaces and elements.     Level 2

    Qualification

    A substantial two-day per week course for students wishing to explore the vast subject of Interior Design and prepare a portfolio of work for entry into more advanced courses. Through a series of challenging projects, you will learn to create successful designs and exciting styling solutions both for domestic spaces. You will learn to work to a brief, to survey and plan a space, to produce technical and free-hand drawings, to select appropriate colours and materials and produce mood boards and sample boards. Research and cultural or historical studies will underpin each project. Level 1 Interior Design or some experience in visual studies is preferable, but we are looking for students with a strong commitment to study and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject.

  • BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design (3D Design) Interior Design - Level 3 ( 12JFD044 )

    Level 3

    Qualification

    An intensive one year course, where you will learn interior spatial design and styling to give you the skills and experience to develop as a creative Interior Designer. Through practical projects, you will learn how to develop and create a concept for an interior from designing the space to styling it with colour, pattern and texture, visualizing your ideas using computer aided design and model-making. We will introduce you to design methods and technical skills, leading to 3-dimensional thinking and analysis. Projects will range from domestic, to commercial interiors in the local area. At the end of this course, many students progress onto the Higher National Certificate in Interior Architecture at KCC, a degree course in Architecture /Interior Design or employment.

  • BTEC Higher National Certificate in Interior Architecture - Level 4 ( 12JFD101 )

    Level 4

    Qualification

    This Higher Education course is designed to expand students’ creative, analytical and technical skills and to prepare them for employment or self-employment in the profession of Interior Design. The course equips students to meet the increasing demand for well trained designers with strong design flair and sound technical and managerial knowledge. Design projects are exploratory, experimental and large in scale and students are expected to work independently on own projects while being provided with on going design support through regular tutorials. There is the opportunity for students to gain a genuine understanding of both design and management principles. A group exhibition will take place during the summer term. At interview students will need to show a strong portfolio of work in their specialist area. This course is equivalent to a first year BA course and leads to a BTEC Higher National Certificate qualification.
