New BA Fine Art Top Up Programme Rivals University Counterparts

New BA Fine Art Top Up Programme Rivals University Counterparts

Kensington and Chelsea College’s commitment to affordable and flexible education is no more apparent than through the College’s new BA Fine Art Top-Up Programme – offering students a fast-track and competitively priced opportunity to gain a full degree qualification, in the heart of London’s art and design district.

Structured over three separate courses, taught over three years, the College offers students the flexibility to join at any stage of their Higher education studies with no need to repeat a year. The HNC is equivalent to Year 1, the HND to Year 2 and the BA top up to Year 3.

There has been a considerable change in the size and management of Fine Art courses at specialist Art Colleges and Universities. Anecdotal evidence records student experiencing courses where they feel overwhelmed and under supported, and a reduction in the studio space available. Kensington and Chelsea College’s fine art facilities offers the space and tutor contact that is missing elsewhere.

Current HNC Fine Art student said: “HNC tutors are a delight – inspiring, enthusiastic and patient!”

Current BA Fine Art top-up student said: “The standard of tutors… is excellent – the college has an excellent study environment.”

In addition to the enhanced studio space and tutor contact, the fees at Kensington and Chelsea College are also significantly lower than at other colleges – reducing the cost of a three year degree from around £27,000 to nearer £16,000.

Programme staffing is key in maintaining the relevance, currency and quality of the course. All teaching staff are practising and exhibiting artists. This includes the fractional appointments and Visiting Lecturers – providing a range of teaching styles, experience and specialist knowledge.

Greg Rook, Course Director of the BA Fine Art Top-Up said: “Students have four well attended exhibitions over the three years and benefit from the flexibility of having three taught days with five days of full studio access.”

“Evidence of the quality of the courses is that 25% of students go straight on to MA at the Royal College, Chelsea and Camberwell etc., from the first year HNC.”

Students who complete the three years are awarded a Fine Art BA (Hons) by London South Bank University.

There are still places available on the course for September 2015, but hurry, they are filling up fast! To find out more about the BA Fine Art Course visit this link for our fine art qualifications or contact 0207 573 5333.

The scheme comprised of a variety of workshops, advice sessions on preparing their portfolio and mock interviews to help prepare the students for getting into the University.

Speaking about her experience on CAPS, Hannah Pearce said: “The scheme helped me with my portfolio. It geared me up for university within a matter of months. It was extremely intense but I’m glad to say that we all persevered through support from our tutors, and were rewarded for it in the end.”
