Higher National Certificate in Fashion and Textiles – Millinery

This one year programme includes a series of projects designed to develop students’ creativity and build on existing millinery skills. With a strong focus on design development and specialist couture techniques including hand-shaping, block-making and theatrical millinery. Contextual studies, visual studies and professional practise add breadth to studio work, alongside tutorials, workshops and lectures. There is an additional equipment charge payable in class.

Develop your millinery skills in our specialist millinery studio with expert advice and technique demonstrations from a millinery professional. Focusing on Spring hats, in felts to lighter weight materials.

Award in Millinery Level 1

An opportunity to learn core millinery skills, such as blocking, wiring, edging, trimming and finishing.

You will start with felt before moving on to lighter weight materials.

Specialist Millinery Techniques: Feather Masterclass with Ian Bennett

Learn from a true maestro of feathers – Ian Bennett – how to shape, curl, dye, assemble and create stunning, professional-looking feather trimmings for hats and headpieces. Ideal for those who wish to add these techniques to their arsenal of millinery skills. Feathers available to purchase in class. Please bring a basic sewing kit and note pad.

City & Guiilds Millinery Design Level 2

For those with a keen interest in fashion, this course covers a different area of millinery each term, such as felt hat making, working with straws and sinanay, trimmings etc. this is a mixed level group suitable for intermediate to advanced in millinery.
