Our range of long and short courses aim to provide something for everyone. For the beginner who wants to learn how to draw or paint, for the person returning to study after an absence or for the more experienced practitioner wanting the chance to experiment or find constructive criticism. No particular school or philosophy of art governs our course provision except a commitment to the excellence of the learning experience.
Art materials are not included in the course fee. Basic materials can be purchased from the College. Extra costs will be indicated in the course outline or at interview/advice sessions.

This is the core day of a course that can lead you onto a recognised qualification in art and design. This day will concentrate on building your art and design skills. Drawing is the key to all visual art disciplines and this will be central to your learning. You will be able to add subject specialisms to your study at other times during the week depending on how much time you have to study.

This exciting course will introduce the key techniques to develop your painting and drawing skills. Through a step by step sequence of workshops you will learn how to use pencils, pastels, charcoal, watercolours, acrylic and oils. Measured Drawing: Explore ( 10TAD016 )
There are many problems associated with rendering the three dimensions of the real world into the two dimensions of the drawing. Working from the life model and other sources this course will have an emphasis upon the systems and techniques developed and used by artists to bring accuracy to their work. Measuring can help instil discipline and rigour into the process of drawing. Measured drawing is not a philosophy that tells you what to draw but a set of tools to help you draw what you want to.

Using studio demonstrations as key part of the teaching process this class will allow learners to explore the potential of painting in oils. A range of traditional techniques and materials will be analysed and explored with references made to their historical context and development.

Continuing to use studio demonstrations as key part of the teaching process this class will build upon previous knowledge and skills. Learners will be encouraged to refine their oil painting process and technique as they work toward expressive interpretations. Oil painting is a medium by which one can gain a greater understanding of the world through directed observation.

A new class providing the opportunity to explore the creative use of mixed media. Mixed media can include just about anything, it means exploring your ability to develop your own creativity. The course introduces as many mediums as possible, with a strong focus on oil paint, acrylics, watercolours and pastels. Develop your skill levels and techniques, make work for a portfolio and make progress to higher level studies.
