Start Printmaking! ( 11TAE018 )
This short course is a practical, studio based programme that will give you a good introduction to etching. You will work in our light and well-equipped specialist studio and learn with supportive tutoring. Etching is an intaglio technique. A drawing is made through a layer of wax, referred to as a hard ground or soft ground. The plate is put into acid and the wax acts as a resist as the zinc plate is "bitten" in the exposed metal. The plate is covered with ink and then wiped clean. The ink left in the recesses makes the print when paper is pressed into them on the etching press. The course is a combination of structured teaching and informal workshop time. Please refer to the Fact Sheet for further information.
