Sculpture Courses
Sculpture courses take place in our specialist studio at Park Walk. Our sculpture courses aim to give a broad selection of learning and development opportunities. There are courses for the beginner, for those returning and wishing to experiment or learn new skills or for advanced practitioners. Our team of sculpture professionals provide expert tuition in a range of sculptural disciplines.
Materials are not included in the course fee. Basic materials can be purchased from the College. Extra costs will be indicated in the course outline or at interview or advice and guidance sessions.

Introduction to Sculpture ( 11TAS038 )
This course will introduce you to the exciting potential of different ways of working with a range of materials to create three dimensional forms. Your skills and Ideas will be developed in the Sculpture studio as you experiment and are shown how to manage the practicalities of completing a Sculpture Project. The Park Walk Studio is equipped specifically for sculpture and the tutor’s expertise will ensure that all Health and Safety matters are considered

Life Modelling: Intermediate ( 11TAS082 )
A dedicated study class with a life model concentrating on clay modelling. You will be able to make realistic representations of the human body learning about anatomy, proportion and composition. Instruction will be given in the use of tools, armature construction, types of clays, firing, colouring and patination techniques. This course is held in our specialist studios and is suitable for beginners and experienced artists. If you have attended previous courses in life modelling you will be encouraged and supported to develop your work in terms of scale ambition and stylistic convention.

Life Modelling: Advanced ( 11TAS083 )
This advanced sculpture class with a life model will be focused on making larger sized work. Instruction In armature making will be taught to facilitate more ambitious work. You will be encouraged to develop your own personal style and develop sculptures with meaning and content. Consideration will be given to the role of figurative sculpture in contemporary art. These larger sculptures will be suitable for casting in bronze resin for outdoor exhibition. This course is held in our specialist studios and is suitable for experienced sculptors.

Working from a life model this continuation course will look in more detail at sculpture techniques using a variety of materials including clay, wax, wire and plaster. Interpretations and abstract works are encouraged in addition to representative life studies. Instruction will be given in the use of tools, armature construction, and modeling, anatomy, and firing, mounting and finishing techniques. Sculpture Materials and Techniques: Intermediate ( 11TAS048 )
This course aims to help developing sculptors to consolidate their understanding of sculpture and its associated techniques. Students will be supported in exploring the quality and potential of a range of materials relative to their practice expression and ideas. You will be encouraged to produce a “portfolio” of work to demonstrate your competencies. On completion it will be possible for students to apply to progress to level three specialist courses or foundation.

This advanced sculpture course will be concerned with helping you develop a personal body of work. Through research and practice you will be expected to define an area of study and interest. The use of materials and techniques will be related directly to your style and method of sculpture. Consideration will be given to the role of sculpture in contemporary art. This sculpture course will prepare you for more advanced study at a professional level.
