BA (Hons) Early Years: Teaching and Learning (1FT)

Who are you and what’s your background?

I am Teresa, and I have just finished my Early Years Foundation Stage with Kingston University at Kensington and Chelsea College.

What attracted you to doing this course?

I have been at the College for years! I did my level 2 and level 3 childcare courses here. The reason I started Early Years was because of my children in order to have more time with them, but the main reason why I continued my studies was due to the encouragement from my level 3 Early Years tutor. She is the person to whom I owe my progress and goals for the future as she was the person who saw potential in me even though I did not see it myself at that time.

What do you enjoy most about the course?

The valuable information about theorists as well as legislations that we get to acquire within classes it has been eye opening for me as I am now aware of why we do certain things within my setting. The support and guidance as well as encouragement and respect of my tutors in the class whenever I struggled made me realised I was not alone. Meeting new and interesting people in class that have led to good friendships whilst doing research and activities going through ups and down together.

What are your plans for the future?

My future ambition is to open up my own nursery which is something that it is in progress now. I am determined to expand my knowledge which will enable me to be a better professional within my field.

Final words about the college

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my tutors I would have not been able to do make it this far.

Thank you so much!

Jessica Mercer – Childcare

Jessica Mercer, 17, enrolled on the CACHE Award/Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education straight from school. She was awarded a Learner Achievement Award this year.

My course offered me the opportunity to understand childcare and what it involves through written and investigative study, as well as research and practical work in my placement. It helped me to learn new skills and about myself and what I am capable of achieving.

I am very proud to receive the Learner Achievement Award. It just goes to show that if I work hard I can do anything I set my mind to.

Helen Wiggins – Health & Care

Helen worked as an Accounts Payable Supervisor for a restaurant group before realising that her heart did not lie in accounts but in the care of the elderly. Helen has lived close to the College for some time and decided to enquire about courses and careers in the healthcare arena which led to her commencing the Level 2 NVQ Health and Social Care course.

I have found my course enjoyable and I like being able to relate my college lessons to my practical work placement. I loved my placement as I was able to work with some very dedicated people who were more than willing to share their knowledge and experience with me. This placement has inspired me to set my sights on completing a nursing degree and I know that I have made the right career choice.
