Community Learning and Arts

Community Learning and Arts

Community Learning and Arts is not concerned primarily with formal qualifications, although in many cases it is possible to progress to these if you wish. Community Learning and Arts provides opportunities for everyone to pursue their interests, develop their talents and enjoy learning through life.

The adult education courses in this prospectus are funded by the Royal Borough's community education service. Many youth centres also make provision for young adults up to the age of 25. In addition Community Learning and Arts provides or supports many other services for people of all ages. These include:

  • Children's activities such as after-school and holiday play centres, adventure playgrounds, junior youth clubs, out-of-school learning and homework centres;
  • Youth centres and projects which provide a wide variety of activities for young people aged 14 to 25. These combine enjoyment with personal challenge and aim to support the transition from adolescence to adulthood;
  • A sports development team which provides access to sports activities for the whole community, including sessions for children, over 50s, women and girls and people with disabilities;
  • Student support, including student support loans and maintenance allowances, and support arrangements for post-16 students with learning difficulties and disabilities;
  • Learning partnerships in which the Royal Borough collaborates with many voluntary organisations, local employers, volunteers and other agencies to widen participation in learning.

The service particularly welcomes contact with people who are new to education, who are not currently using our provision or who wish to return to learn after a break.
