Travel in London
London is a very large city and travelling can take a lot of time and be expensive. If you have already been accepted on a course at Kensington and Chelsea College, check which centre(s) you will be studying at, so you can choose where you stay to minimise your travelling time.
The London underground is zoned and you pay more if you travel across the zones. Currently a zone one and two travel card costs £22.00 per week. For this you can have unlimited travel on buses and tubes in the central zones. You will need a passport type photograph to get your first card. You can also get daily travel cards but can’t travel with these before 09.30 – current cost £4.90 each day.
Buses are cheaper but often take longer because of the traffic. Bus fares are currently £1.50 for any single journey, better value but not always so easy until you know your way around. You can buy books of tickets in advance to save money. Bus drivers on some routes do not sell tickets and you must purchase in advance.
Full-time students over (15 hours per week or more) over 18 years old can pay £5.00 and save 30% of the cost of a weekly or monthly travel card, forms for this are available in college.
