College Open Day Changed My Life!

College Open Day Changed My Life!

A College Open Day at Kensington and Chelsea College led to a former health worker reinventing herself into an ‘outstanding grade 1 Ofsted rated’ teacher.

After working in the NHS for several years, Julie Golding decided it was time for a change and started looking into a career in teaching.

The mum-of-two from Streatham Vale said: “I read lots of information online, but realised I needed to speak to a qualified expert to fully understand the route into teaching, the courses and options available to me, and the support that was out there for people who wanted to change career.”

Julie attended an Open Day at Kensington and Chelsea College where she was able to get 1-2-1 advice from qualified careers advisors and subject specialist tutors from the College’s Teaching Department, which was recently graded by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’ in conjunction with the College’s partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University.

Thanks to the Open Day Julie was set on the path to becoming a high-achieving qualified teacher.

Since then Julie has gone on to complete the College’s PTLLS course (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) in conjunction with Canterbury Christ Church University, the DTLLS course (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector), as well as the PGCE, also in conjunction with Canterbury Christ Church University. Having successfully completed all three courses Julie has gone on to employment with Ofsted grade 1 teaching departments, as well as becoming an Ofsted rated grade 1 teacher herself.

Julie said: “The Open Day at Kensington and Chelsea College was really well run, fun, informative and a fantastic resource. I was able to meet the Teacher Training Department and gain tailored advice from really friendly and knowledgeable Teacher Training staff. If it wasn’t for their help and guidance I would never have progressed through three different courses through the College to become a fully qualified teacher!”

Speaking about her course Julie said: “If you’re thinking about doing a course or changing career – don’t hold back. I always felt incredibly supported by the tutors at the College. They were outstanding and were always there for me, motivating me to keep progressing through the various levels. I also gained more confidence in myself and my abilities through the teacher training course. I feel like I’ve reinvented myself!”
