Taking things a bit further...make better use of Graphic Design skills and learn how to design web layouts and banners. This course is for intermediate user who would like to get a better understanding of design process relating to web sites. With the rapid expansion of New Media there is a serious need for talented graphic designers. On this intermediate course you will explore the principals of graphic design related to the web and learn how it has evolved. This course will give you an introduction to field graphic design for the web and a good idea of what you will need to 'make your designs work'. Take it further by building on information you have received on previous courses or giving yourself a refresher. Taught using Apple Mac computers, the course provides an introduction to design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, which are industry standard applications. You will have lectures, review case studies, develop your critiquing skills, and get feedback from your instructor throughout the course. You will learn to develop effective design ideas through creative thinking and problem solving. You will develop effective design concepts for specific types of print media posters, CD/DVD cover, planning your layout and review existing web sites. You will learn to apply principles for evaluating the effectiveness of type, image, colour, and layout in your design projects. On this course you will be asked to design an a range of designs for a product or service. Identify the four basic design elements composition, colour, type, and imagery and how they communicate a message. Brainstorm words and images to develop a creative design concept for a client. Identify the use of practical menu placement, design size, proportion, type and use of image to attract attention and associate a product with an emotion. You will provide thoughtful commentary on existing design pieces demonstrating understanding of design elements, communication, audience, and ton

An Introduction to Web Site Planning and Production: BTEC Award ( 9MFM044 )

INTRODUCTION TO A PROFESSIONAL APPROACH TO DESIGNING WEB SITES DEMYSTIFYING THE WEB DESIGN PROCESS To design the websites of today you need a complete skillset. It is not simply enough to develop a visual design. Clients expect you to be able to research, plan, build, design, and test a site using contemporary technologies and design styles. On this course you will develop and present a well-researched competitive analysis for a website project; create and present an orderly, well-structured and informed plan for a website and implement your design using Adobe Dreamweaver. Spanning two of the BTEC units, you will create and present clear, informative, page-level wire frames indicating the layout of content and features for the main site pages. Develop a collage-style mood board to define the personality of a website. Develop and implement an appropriate colour scheme for a client. Use best practice approaches to incorporate digital imagery in conjunction with CSS, Dreamweaver and possibly Fireworks.
