Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Fireworks are the industry-standard programmes for the professional design and construction of your web pages. This comprehensive course covers subjects such as basic HTML and CSS, layout, navigation and how to get your site online. Photoshop and Fireworks will be used to create logos and prepare photographs for your site. The course is taught using Apple Macs however Apple Mac experience is not a requirement. This is an introduction to planning and designing web sites using Photoshop and Dreamweaver. This course is designed to provide the necessary skills and training for an entry-level position in the field of Web Design. This course will be focusing on the essential planning steps that no web project should start without, You Learn to develop and maintain Web sites and will design an up to date website to a given theme or brief (see fact sheet). You will create and present clear information with well designed page-level wireframes indicating the layout of content and features on main site pages. You will also develop a style and mood board to define the personality of a Web site. You will learn to develop and implement an appropriate colour scheme for a design. Use best practice approaches to incorporate JPEG, GIF, and PNG imagery in conjunction with CSS (basics). Use CSS to specify and layout typography for main webpage including titles, headers, and body text. Use CSS to precisely control your design elements. Follow basic principles of usability in page layout and navigation design. You will explore the process for developing a visual design, explore fundamental do's and don'ts for getting your web site up and running and learn some cool methods for a slick presentation of graphic content. You will need to be confinable with using a computers, the Internet and have some basic Photoshop knowledge is highly advantageous.

Flash CS is the industry standard in internet animation and has applications in both web design and video animation. On this introductory course you will learn the processes of animation, from simple movement of images and text to animating cartoon characters that you will draw or trace. On completion of this course you can progress to the BTEC Award class where you can apply these techniques, incorporating sounds, buttons and interactivity to create dynamic websites. Web Design: Flash CS: BTEC Specialist Award ( 10MLW061 )

This BTEC Award runs for one evening a week over two terms. Students wishing to join this course will ideally have some experience with Flash animation i.e. the Flash CS Introductory course running in September. You will learn to apply these animation and drawing techniques, and incorporate sounds, buttons and interactivity to create dynamic elements such as web banners and interactive portfolios to showcase your talents. Issues of design and functionality are discussed regularly to give your work the visual edge needed to compete. The course is primarily design based, but you will also learn how to implement the scripting language of Flash CS to add functionality to your work.
