First Steps Courses
Learning new skills is key to our future success
9 out of 10 people firmly believe that learning new skills is a good way of taking control of their future yet 5.4 million (18%) of working age adults have a qualification below level 2 and only 50% of the population have a qualification of level 3 or higher. Kensington and Chelsea College is stepping up to this challenge by launching a new range of courses this Autumn entitled "First Steps". Aimed at those with no formal qualifications, they enable people to return to study, or get their education on the right path - both of which will help improve job and prospects and help people take better control of their future.
Courses are flexible and multi-disciplined, meaning, students can try out a variety of vocational subject areas. These range from Construction, Art, Design and Photography to Hair and Beauty, Health and Care and Business Studies. Additional support in Maths, English and IT is also given.
17 Year old student, Javed Ahmed recommends the "Entry to Employment" programme, a similar entry level course already running at Kensington and Chelsea College -
Before coming to college I was unemployed and not in education. Kensington and Chelsea College have really supported me through my studies, and helped me develop my career path. They have also recently found me an apprenticeship as an executive assistant. If I wasn't here I think I would still be wondering what to do with my life and looking for a job.
Vice principal Amanda Hayes comments:
We know our workforce needs to become better skilled to help ensure our future economic success. The role of colleges in providing skills and training at all levels is vital and we are very proud of the successes of all our students and the new confidence they acquire through gaining qualifications with the college.
