Kensington and Chelsea College music department generate a buzz with the launch of their new record label KCC Music.
KCC Music is proud to present their debut artist, Shirley Royal. Her new single ‘Try’ will be available from Amazon, iTunes and Napster release on 17th March 2014 but you can hear a sneak preview here http://youtu.be/2rocngoFK5U
Crossing elements of Hip-Hop and R&B, Reggae and Urban music, Ms Royal strives to inspire the younger generation through her songs and life experiences. Shirley was born and raised in London; however her ancestors originate from Jamaica.
Shirley previously studied on the BTEC L3 Music Performance Course at Kensington and Chelsea College and was selected as the launch artist for KCC Music. After careful consideration, Shirley was chosen based on her hard work and dedication. ‘Try’ is a moving song written about striving for your dreams, goals and trying in a relationship when things get tough. Shirley will be performing live and appearing on radio interviews in the spring of 2014. She is currently in the studio working on new material for her debut album. This release is part of a record label project operated by young music and media students of the Kensington and Chelsea College.
Shirley is a big fan of artists such as Mary J Blige, Bob and Damien Marley. Her aspiration is to collaborate with Mary J Blige one day in the future. Shirley immersed herself in music throughout her life, performing from a very young age. So it was only fitting that she chose to pursue being a musician as a career path. Shirley’s passion flourished after being influenced by her father, the owner of a DJ sound system. Playing anything from Dennis Brown to The Heptones and Bob Marley, Shirley has combined these influences from her father with her own musical tastes to forge an original sound.
Commercially releasing her music is very important to Shirley, as she wants people to be inspired to live out their dreams and aim for their goals in life, just as her favourite artists inspired her when she was a child.
Head of Music at Kensington and Chelsea College Paul Hall says:
“the release of our first song is a proud moment for the College and all involved that have supported the record label project, KCC Music. The vision of work based learning for students is now a reality, thanks to the students that have worked behind the scenes creating Logo Designs, CD Covers, Web Designs and Video & Music Production’ to facilitate the success of Shirley’s song Try, a proud moment indeed”
Shirley is a former Level 3 Music Performance student from Kensington and Chelsea College, who won KCC’s Music Student of the Award for artictic flair, which was presented to her by the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea Borough and Aziz Samih (Community Business Leader).
Shirley Royal will be performing at the Kensington and Chelsea Music and Media Student Networking Event on the 2nd April 2014 at 4:30pm (Address: Kensington Centre, Room 301b, Wornington Road, London W10 5QQ).
