Motor Vehicle Workshop at HMP Wandsworth

Motor Vehicle Workshop at HMP Wandsworth

The new Motor Vehicle Workshop is now operational at HMP Wandsworth, funded by the LSC under capital funding; this is a major joint project with KCC and the Prison. This has taken nearly 9 months to complete and was opened on the 18th May by David Hughes – LSC Regional Director for London. This wonderful facility which provides training for 16 students has been sponsored by Kawasaki, with links to local employers.

Our Community team continue to expand our range of programmes on offer; we currently have 14 projects funded by a variety of funding streams including ESF, the Paul Hamlin Foundation, and Skills for Jobs. The work required to keep the referrals to these programmes on target is considerable, but so far the target starts are being met with many students going onto employment or further training. The team are currently working on a number of bids for Youth projects including the Mayor’s Project Daedalus in conjunction with the Education team and the Prison at HMYOI Feltham, where the new unit “Heron” where the custodial element will be delivered from is based.
