Award Winning Artists Collaborate For Special Exhibition
An exclusive group of award winning artists unveiled their latest work in a special celebratory exhibition held at Kensington and Chelsea College.
‘Artists Breath’ brought together a unique collection of art in an exciting exhibition that also paid homage to the late Peter Stanley, the college’s former Head of Art.
Peter, who worked for the college for nearly twenty years, died in 2006 but left behind a legacy of accomplished artists who honed their talents under his guidance.
Since his death, Peter’s passion and love for art has lived on through the Peter Stanley Memorial Award – an annual college award given to students in recognition of outstanding art work.
‘Artists Breath’ ,for the first time, brought together a collection of sculpture, paintings and installation work by Peter Stanley Memorial Award winners from 2006 to 2010. The show also featured one of Peter’s last sculptural works.
Among the artists who exhibited their work was Katie Comerford, who came back to the UK from Italy especially for the show. Katie, who showcased several pieces of installation art, said:
‘I came back for the exhibition to give some thing back to the college as it’s a brilliant place to study with great space and inspiring tutors. My exhibits took a year to complete and explored the perceptions of space you can and can’t see. The work was a real labour of love. Hopefully people enjoyed viewing it!’
Gill Ingham, the college’s Sector Manager for Art, Design and Media, said:
‘The exhibition is one Peter would have been proud of. It is what he strove for, to inspire and nurture artistic talent’
