On May 7th, Kensington and Chelsea College Media students took part in the final phase of a collaborative project called ‘Roots’ – a six hour challenge organised by the National Skills Academy Creative and Cultural, and held at the spectacular Back stage Centre in Purfleet, Essex. Kensington and Chelsea College learners joined up with students from three Gazelle group Colleges, known for their innovative focus on enterprise and entrepreneurship.
For the 6 Hour Challenge, groups of students were asked to prepare four ten minute dramatic productions, using available resources, to a set theme based on famous quotations.
Kensington and Chelsea College media students were assigned to 2 groups to film the development process of projects and final stage productions, which they recorded to a professional standard.
Upon their return Kensington and Chelsea College students remarked that they had particularly enjoyed the experience of working with students from other colleges. Teaching staff were impressed by the high standard of work achieved in such a short time, and the organisational skills and collaborative spirit of the learners. The media students are in the process of making an edited version of the dance and drama films which they are hoping will be shown at Big Screen this summer.
