Elspeth studied photography at the Polytechnic of Central London, which subsequently became the University of Westminster. In 1988 she was awarded 1st prize by the Salon of British Contemporary Photography, judged by the late photographer Fay Godwin. In 1991 she was awarded runner up in the Elle Magazine Talent Contest.
She worked as a freelance photographer for a few years gaining commissions from a variety of editorial and design companies including; Random House Publishing, Granta Books, Penguin UK, Hyperion Records, EMI Classics, Pentagram Design, Head Design, Alexander Fest Verlag, and Aromatherapy Magazine.
Elspeth has taught photography at Kensington and Chelsea College across all levels of courses.
