Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
Nicola Weaver, Partnerships and Research Lead Officer for The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, says:
The council is involved with the Apprenticeship programme through the Kensington and Chelsea Partnership (KCP), which is an umbrella group of local organisations brought together to improve the quality of life in the borough.
Through some funding it recently received the Partnership was able to set up an apprenticeship programme aimed at helping those suffering from the economic down turn.
Under the programme five young people have been given opportunities in either Business Administration or Facilities Management and receive their accredited training through Kensington and Chelsea College.
Being part of the Apprenticeship Programme has led to five enthusiastic and very capable young people become an asset to the team and departments they are working in.
The apprentices have been providing valuable support to a variety of teams and the business administration they need to perform. They are quick to learn and keen to succeed in the opportunity they have been given and add a new and fresh dynamic to the office.
In financial terms, apprenticeships offer excellent value for money, although this is not the primary incentive for us, as it's more about offering experience and work placements to unemployed young people in the borough.
