Charlene Galea
After feeling unfulfilled in her job at a restaurant, Charlene Galea decided to embark on a career change. Charlene enrolled on to a Level 2 Beauty Therapy course, and eventually progressed on to Level 3. The ambitious student also won an award for her commitment to learning in the college's 2010 Learner Achievement Awards.
Charlene said: 'I felt like I needed to learn something new. I've always had a passion for beauty since a young age but the main reason for starting the course was because I felt my brain wasn't being put to good use!
'My course tutors understood the needs of each student and realised that not everyone studies at the same level. The students all came from different backgrounds, levels of education and ages but in class we supported each other and worked as a team.'
'I do have other colleges closer to where I live but I kept enrolling at Kensington and Chelsea College because I felt happy, safe, welcome and understood. Doing the course has improved my self esteem, improved my general knowledge and interest to know more. '
'I feel good about my future and confident about moving on after the course. Coming to the college has helped me feel like a whole person again and made me see life from a different point of view. My achievements on the course have been a joy for my family as well as for myself.'
