Natalie

Natalie came to Kensington and Chelsea College from Durban, South Africa, where she had achieved a National Higher Diploma in Fashion Design and Technology. She joined a multimedia course, because she wanted to develop her career, integrating her fashion experience with her love of music.

I'd worked in the fashion industry in South Africa for four years, Natalie says, before I decided to come overseas to pursue more interesting training opportunities. The course is just what I wanted, my latest project is making a music promo for Starseed - a London-based South African rock band, who have video deals with various music channels in South Africa and the UK.

Natalie's lecturers helped her contact the English National Ballet School in Chelsea, to find some dancers as part of the narrative for her video. She was able to 'borrow' two ballerinas for a day and set up a video shoot in one of the college's dance studios. Course lecturer, David Barker says, It was a really good experience for all of them! The dancers got some experience of performing for the camera and will have some clips to use in their portfolios and Natalie found out just how difficult it is to get those perfect shots. But she now has some great material to edit.

Natalie works part-time in the fashion industry, while she's in the UK. She spends her spare time writing for a rock website and representing them on an international level in the UK, interviewing bands and writing reviews about them.

After the course, Natalie hopes to get some UK and international experience with Music, TV and Fashion before she returns home to South Africa.
