Supporting you at College
As a full-time student you will have:
- a personal tutor to guide and support you
- learning support if you are experiencing difficulties with your course work
- personalised support if you have Dyslexia, or a learning difficulty or
- Careers and welfare advice
- access to computers with the internet
- leisure activities and the chance to study additional courses
A personal tutor to guide and support you
As a full-time student you will have a weekly tutorial session with a personal tutor who will provide advice, support and feedback to you about your progress. You will also get help with career decisions, job search skills, study skills and what to do when your course finishes.
Learning Support if you are experiencing difficulties with your course work
Learning Support is available to you if who are experiencing difficulties with your course work. You can get help to improve your reading, writing, maths, numeracy and study skills.
Personalised support if you have Dyslexia, or a learning difficulty or disability
Personalised support is available if you have Dyslexia, a learning difficulty, a physical or sensory disability or mental health problems. We can also provide specialist equipment and services, for example brailing, large print, communicators and note-takers.
Careers and welfare advice
The Wornington & Hortensia sites have a Student Advice Centre where Careers and Education Advisers and Welfare Advisers are based. Counsellors and Connexions Personal Advisers also provide additional support. The Centres are open every day. Students can drop-in for information or advice or can make an appointment for specialist advice, careers guidance or counselling.
Access to computers with the internet
There are computers for your use in the libraries, IT classrooms and standard classrooms. All computers have Pentium processors, industry standard software installed and access to the Internet. If you are following a multi media, graphics or interior design course you will be taught in our Apple Mac suites
The College also provides three web-based information and communication resources for students: -
- Moodle - is the college's Virtual Learning Environment [VLE]. It is an online learning tool that contains information about courses and provides communication channels to help you communicate with other students and your teachers. Teachers upload course information to Moodle for you to access whenever you like.
Leisure activities and the chance to study additional courses
There are lots of things that you can do alongside your main course, such as, taking part in trips and activities, attending college wide events or studying a short course in a subject that you already enjoy or in a brand new area you are interested in learning about.
Here are some examples of the subjects you could study. (See our course listings for a full list). Dance, drama, music, drawing, painting, print making, sculpture, photography, multimedia, IT, languages, cooking, ceramics, mosaics, jewellery, glass, garment making, creative writing, yoga
