The ALS team is here to assist and support learners with the academic side of their time here at KCC.

When you initially meet with a member of the team you can discuss your learning support needs and devise a plan, which may see you teamed up with a specialist member of the team or referred to another aspect of the Student Services provision at KCC. Your ALS support may be on a 1:1 basis for an hour outside of your usual class times or in class if that’s what is needed. The aim of the team is to enable you to work independently, which in turn allows you to work at times which are most convenient for you.

Our focus on using ICT, involves using reading pens, both in and outside of class, as well as speech to text software, for which you will receive training in its use. Creating independent learners is a central aim of the ALS team and to this end we provide specialist dyslexia, literacy and maths support. We also work closely with the Student Experience team to ensure that where learners’ needs arise which are outside of those already described above, learners are quickly referred to the appropriate team providing the type of specialist support which may be required.
