Funding for adults at KCC

Are you thinking of returning to study but concerned about costs? Taking a course at Kensington and Chelsea College is a great investment in your future and there are a number of ways we support over-19s to finance their studies.

Free or discounted course fees

If you are aged 19-23 inclusive and do not currently hold a full Level 1, 2 or 3 qualification, you may be entitled to free tuition regardless of your employment or income status when you enrol for your first full course at the appropriate level.

If you are aged 24+ and in receipt of benefits, your fee may be reduced at Level 1 and 2.

Course funding rules come from the government and sometimes other bodies. They can be quite complicated and change regularly. For these reasons we will need to assess your fee status when you come to enrol, in person.

19+Adult Education Bursary (AEB)

This is available to learners for help towards essential course costs, or costs associated with study such as travel, or childcare. What you are entitled to will depend on your circumstances, your household income, the course of study and how far you live from the college

The Adult Education Bursary is for students who are 19+ on the first day of their course, studying Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2 qualifications, or who are under 23 and studying their first Level 3 qualification.

All applications must be printed, completed, dated and signed by the applicant and returned by post.

19+ Loans Bursary Funds (LBF)

This fund is only available for our 19+ learners who have taken the Advanced Learner Loan for tuition fees. What you are entitled to will depend on your circumstances, your household income, the course of study and how far you live from the college.

All applications must be printed, completed, dated and signed by the applicant and returned by post.

More information and application forms are available from College receptions.

Advanced Learner Loans

The 19+ Advanced Learning Loan aims to help take the financial stress away from study by allowing those aged 19 and over to apply for a loan to cover the tuition fee.

Any UK resident aged 19 or over who enrols with us onto an eligible level 3 can apply for a Government funded loan to pay for the tuition fee. This will be paid directly to the college on your behalf.

This is great news for you as it means that you don’t have to pay anything when you enrol. This includes all advanced courses including Access to Higher Education Diplomas, other Diplomas and Certificates. What’s even better news is that you don’t have to start paying the loan back until you’re earning over £25,250 a year (correct as of June 2019).

In addition if you are enrolling on one of our Access to Higher Education programmes and then progress to a Higher Education (HE) course at any UK college or university, the further education part of the loan will be written off when you complete your HE course!

Kensington and Chelsea College staff are happy to help you complete your loan application form. So don’t delay, call our Course Information team and book in for a help session.
