The CELTA, Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults is an internationally recognised teaching qualification awarded by Cambridge ESOL. This 120-hour course is suitable for you if you have little or no previous teaching experience. On the course you will receive instruction on methods of teaching language and the analysis of English language for teaching purposes.
Teaching practice is an integral part of the course and you will teach real ESOL students for 6 hours at two different levels. Your teaching will be observed by your tutor and fellow trainees. After teaching you will be given verbal and written feedback and your tutor will support you in planning your next lesson.
Assessment on the course is based on your teaching practice and 4 written assignments. These assignments will be on the practical aspects of teaching and altogether require no more than 4,000 words. In order to be successful on the course you must attend 100% of the course, complete all the assignments and reach the required standard in your teaching practice. .
To join the course you will have to complete an application form and assessment then, based on this, be invited for interview where there is a further assessment.
