This exciting and challenging one-year course will prepare you for applying to highly competitive degree courses. The course is structured in three parts, each building upon your learning and experience. Pathways in the following subjects can be selected in term 2: fashion design, textile design and communications. You will be encouraged to learn through exploration and discovery and develop an understanding of a variety of processes and concepts. The practical nature of the course is underpinned with historical and contextual studies, visits to museums and galleries, lectures and project work.
Students for foundation diplomas are normally expected to possess four GCSEs, grade 4 or above, including English & Maths.
English Language Requirements for overseas students:
IELTS level 5.0 or above, with at least 4.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Students are also normally expected to have one of the following:
– One A level, Grade C or above in a relevant subject
– Equivalent Level 3/EU/International qualifications, such as International Baccalaureate Certificates – two at ‘Higher Level’ and one at ‘Standard Level’ – Grade 4 or above.
– Other relevant equivalent qualifications are considered on an individual basis.
Students are requested to attend an interview with a portfolio of current work that demonstrates ability in research skills, drawing, creative thinking and problem solving and an interest in art, design or related subjects including textiles or photography.
On successful completion of the course, most students continue their studies on university degrees.
