Find out how Access to Law got Dejon one step closer to his dream of working in sport!
I am Dejon; I am 24 years old. I was a cheffrom the age of 18 and just after my 23rd birthday I was contemplating going back to college to finish my education I had left prematurely. I called KCC one day in August 2015 and thought I’d sign up for an access course. It didn’t bother me too much. I had already missed 5 years of being a student. The gentleman on the phone said to me, “We have Economics, Business Studies, Sociology, and Law.”….
“That’s it! I’ll do Law.” I said to myself. I came in for my interview a couple weeks later, and the rest is history, I was studying an access diploma to Law.
What attracted you to doing this course?
If you guys want the simple answer, it was nothing. I just simply knew that I couldn’t be where I wanted to be in the future doing what I was doing at that particular time in my life (being a chef). I knew I would be able to support myself much easier financially in the long-run if I took this change of path with my career. Don’t be confused, the question asked what was I attracted to? But once I was there, things changed.
What do you enjoy most about the course?
At first, this was probably the most daunting thing I had ever undertaken. I used to think to myself during the first couple of months, what the hell have I gotten myself into? As things began to settle, and I started to regain my confidence academically, I was able to have a clearer view of what this course was actually about. The main thing was definitely the way my thought process changed. Picking apart things people would say in seeking more clarity if they weren’t so at first instance is an example. The way the course changed my outlook on everyday experiences, and ultimately the confidence to converse with anyone about anything (although I think I had a lot of that stored inside me from my kitchen life)..
What are your plans for the future?
Hopefully, my career in law can tie me in with football, as I would be keen on working within the legal world of sports. I’m an avid Arsenal FC fan, and would love to go to every game as well. If that fails, then shipping law does not seem like a bad idea. It seems complex but I’ve always had a problem understanding the simple things
