About the course - an overview

This course is a practical studio based programme and combines structured teaching and informal workshop time. You will gain a good overview of the printmaking media and grounding in a wide range of techniques such as Drypoint, Collagraph, Lino cut, Monoprinting, Etching and Photo-Etching. You will learn to work in the light and well-equipped studio with specialist facilities, and develop ideas and imagery into a portfolio of creative prints. Each printmaking technique is taught by demonstration, one-to-one, feedback and group tutorials, encouraging each student’s personal strengths and interests. What background and qualifications do you need to join? (Entry Requirements) This class is aimed at intermediate and experienced printmakers, therefore applicants should be confident using etching and printmaking equipment. What does the course lead to? This course provides an opportunity to gain confidence and autonomy when working within a print room. You will be encouraged to build a portfolio of prints which could to assist progression to higher level courses. Where will I study? Contemporary Printmaking – Intermediate

About the course - an overview

These 4 courses are designed as a year’s programme but can also be taken individually. They are for learners who are not yet proficient in their printmaking skills and want to extend creative and technical knowledge. We start in Term 1 with Monoprint, Drypoint, Collagraph, or Linocut, in Term 2 do a large amount of etching and in Term 3, progress individual projects. Combining techniques is encouraged and the course plan is flexible. Newcomers will join in the class project and be guided through techniques to start off. Masterclass – Mezzotint (Aquatint in Messotint Manner)

About the course - an overview

Among many printmaking techniques and processes, mezzotint (half-tone) in particular stands out when it comes to creating rich, velvety blacks, and delicate, soft mid-greys. It is a perfect medium for reproducing dramatic light effects and contrasts. After a detailed demonstration, you will be using your own drawings or photographic references which will be developed into a suitable image to transfer on to a pre-rocked copper plate. Discovering Photo Etching

You will work in the well equipped studio with specialist intaglio facilities and develop your personal imagery. Sessions are a combination of structured teaching and informal workshop time, you will be supported with guidance through personal projects, one to one tutorials and feedback to help you develop your artistic strength and interests.
