As the General Election campaign got underway, the main candidates for the marginal constituency of Kensington took part in a lively hustings at KCC’s Wornington Road centre. The packed-out lecture theatre, filled with over 100 students, heard from Felicity Buchan (Conservative), Emma Dent Coad (Labour) and Sam Gyimah (Liberal Democrat). Each candidate addressed the importance of voting and democracy, before setting out key parts of their party’s election pitch, and their own suitability to become the area’s MP. In an hour-long session, several students also got chance to ask questions.

Unsurprisingly, Brexit featured in much of the debate, with other topics covered including local high streets and businesses, crime, health and education.

KCC Principal Andy Cole closed the session, thanking the large audience for their respectful attitude to each of the panellists.
